Her grandson's birth act of 1897 gives her as 'Dona SOCORRO LERENA, Oriental, de sesenta y cinco anos, propietaria y domiciliada en TRINIDAD' - born about 1832, a widow and a property owner in her own right. SHE IS THE MOTHER OF SERAPIO FERNANDEZ, who in 1885 married ANTONINA LERENA, daughter of BERNABE LERENA. SO LERENA BLOOD RUNS DOWN BOTH SIDES OF THAT MARRIAGE, which is why the Archbishop had to dispense a second grade of consanguinity in the equal lateral line. IF SOCORRO AND BERNABE ARE BROTHER AND SISTER THE COUPLE ARE FIRST COUSINS, WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT THAT DEGREE MEANS - BUT HER OWN PARENTS ARE NOT NAMED HERE AND THE LINK IS INFERRED, NOT PROVED. HER PARENTS AND GRANDPARENTS, 9 October 2026, AND WORK-LIST ROW 196 IS CLOSED. The EXPEDIENTE of her own marriage - Trinidad, August 1855 - has a sworn witness name four generations: she is a daughter of Don ALEJANDRO LERENA and Dona MARGARITA FERNANDEZ and a granddaughter of Don RAMON LERENA and Dona MARIA GONZALEZ. BERNABE LERENA'S OWN EXPEDIENTE OF 1858 NAMES THE SAME PARENTS FOR HIM - SO SOCORRO AND BERNABE ARE BROTHER AND SISTER, AND THE 1885 DISPENSATION IS EXPLAINED BY A DOCUMENT RATHER THAN AN INFERENCE. HER MARRIAGE WAS ITSELF DISPENSED, in the SECOND grade by the transverse line - first cousins - and the degree runs on the FERNANDEZ side: her mother is a FERNANDEZ ALVAREZ and her husband's father is MANUEL FERNANDEZ ALVAREZ. THE PETITION CALLS HER 'UNA POBRE INDOTADA' living beside her parents on the work of her hands. AND HER FULL NAME IS MARIA DEL SOCORRO, from a Trinidad baptism of 25 January 1849 where she stands godmother - about seventeen on the age her grandson's 1897 act gives her, which corroborates 1832 from a second direction. A SENTENCE WAS PUT ON THIS ROW EARLIER TODAY AND IS WITHDRAWN THE SAME DAY. It said her marriage was dated 15 July 1885 from a parish index row reading 'Socorro Lerena, Bride, married Serapio Fernandez'. THAT CANNOT BE THIS WOMAN. The index record gives its bride as thirty years old, SOLTERA, born 1855; this Socorro was born about 1832 and in 1885 was a WIDOW with a grown son - the Serapio Fernandez who married that June. A woman cannot be the groom's mother and his bride. AND THE INDEX RECORD BETRAYS ITSELF WHEN IT IS OPENED. It gives the bride THE GROOM'S OWN ATTRIBUTES, ITEM FOR ITEM: age thirty, born 1855, born at Santisima Trinidad, resident at Santisima Trinidad, single - every field identical to his. THAT IS NOT A BRIDE. IT IS ONE PARTY'S DETAILS COPIED ONTO A LERENA NAME THE PARSER FOUND ELSEWHERE ON THE PAGE - and the Lerena name on that page is hers, because she is the groom's mother. SO THE LIKELIEST READING: the act of 15 July 1885 is the marriage of SERAPIO FERNANDEZ (hijo) to ANTONINA LERENA, dispensed three weeks earlier on 26 June 1885, and the computer index has put the groom's mother in the bride's place. NOT PROVED - THE PLATE HAS NOT BEEN OPENED - and a third Socorro Lerena cannot be formally excluded. HER OWN MARRIAGE REMAINS UNDATED.
