Ramon LERENA (of Rosario-Colla, fl. 1794-1820)

Father of Mauricio, and the head of the Rosario-Colla household. NOT the Ramon LERENA born 1892 in Argentina who is also in this register - two different men, and the register now says so on both rows. A standing warning of this archive attaches here: the tree's Gabino of Flores is given as a son of Ramon Llerena Cubas and Margarita Leal, which may or may not be this Ramon. Untested, and deliberately not merged. AND A CANDIDATE OF THE FIRST ORDER ARRIVED 9 October 2026. The Trinidad expedientes of 1855 and 1858 give the head of the Trinidad kindred as RAMON LERENA married to MARIA GONZALEZ, with children ALEJANDRO and ANTONINA, both naturales de SAN JOSE. THIS ROW IS RAMON LERENA MARRIED TO MARIA JOSEFA GONZALEZ, NAMED AS MAURICIO'S PARENTS ON A MARRIAGE AT SAN JOSE DE MAYO IN 1837. SAME COUPLE'S NAMES AND SAME GENERATION. If it is one couple, the Trinidad kindred attaches to the Rosario-Colla house and Alejandro and Antonina are Mauricio's siblings. NOT MERGED, AND DELIBERATELY SO: the 1837 act is INDEXED and not image-read, MARIA GONZALEZ is a common name, and this archive does not join two families on a matching couple alone. THE TEST: the 1837 San Jose act off the plate, or a baptism of Alejandro, Antonina or Mauricio naming Ramon. See data/trinidad-founding-kindred.tsv. AND THE CLAIM OF A SHARED PLACE OF ORIGIN IS WITHDRAWN, 9 October 2026, by the plate that was supposed to confirm it. This archive wrote that the 1837 act and the 1858 expediente give the same origin. THEY DO NOT. The 1837 act, read off the plate, says Mauricio was 'natural de la Villa del COLLA'; the 1858 expediente says the Trinidad Lerenas are 'naturales de SAN JOSE'. DIFFERENT BIRTHPLACES. What is shared is narrower and must be said narrowly: Mauricio was MARRIED at San Jose de Mayo, and the Trinidad Lerenas were BORN there. See data/corrections.tsv. AND A SECOND DESCENT LINE REACHED TRINIDAD, 9 October 2026. His son Mauricio's son CIPRIANO is now proved by a birth act to be one of the men fathering Lerena children at TRINIDAD in the 1870s and 1880s. SO TWO OF THOSE TRINIDAD MEN DESCEND FROM A 'RAMON LERENA AND MARIA GONZALEZ' BY TWO INDEPENDENT DOCUMENTS - Bernabe through the 1858 kinship schema, Cipriano through the 1837 marriage act and the 1895 birth act. THAT IS CONVERGENCE RATHER THAN A NAME MATCH, AND IT IS STILL NOT PROOF: two couples can share two names. THE TEST NOW: a baptism of Alejandro or Antonina at San Jose, or any record naming this Ramon with more than one child. AND THE IDENTIFICATION IS NOT A CANDIDATE AND WAS NEVER ONE - THIS ROW SAID SO ALL MORNING AND WAS WRONG TO. data/ramon-lerena-rosario.tsv has held since 17 September that Alejandro and Mauricio are his sons and Bernabe and Cipriano his grandsons. AND ON 9 OCTOBER HIS SON'S MARRIAGE ACT WAS READ OFF THE PLATE: act No. 17 of 16 September 1825 at San Jose - 'desposé... a ALEXANDRO LEREÑA, natural de la VILLA DEL ROSARIO, hijo legitimo de RAMON LEREÑA y de MARIA JOSEFA GONZALEZ, con MARGARITA FERNANDEZ ALVAREZ, natural de esta Villa, hija legitima de JUAN FERNANDEZ ALVAREZ y de BARBARA SOTURA'; godparents MARCOS DE LEON GONZALEZ and MARIA FERNANDEZ ALVAREZ. THAT IS THE FULL FORM 'MARIA JOSEFA' IN A PRIEST'S HAND, MATCHING THIS ROW'S WIFE EXACTLY. THE TRANSCRIPT READS 'RAMON PEREÑA'; THE PLATE READS LEREÑA. A RAMON LERENA HOLDING OFFICE, SIGNING HIS OWN NAME, ON A DATED DAY IN 1800 - found 11 October 2026 inside a Buenos Aires probate file. The transcript: 'Asi lo proveyo, y firmo Don RAMON LERENA, ALCALDE DE LA SANTA HERMANDAD DEL PARTIDO DEL ROSARIO, a seis dias del mes de Noviembre del ano mil ochocientos. RAMON LERENA. En dicho dia, mes y ano, Yo Don RAMON LERENA, Alcalde de la Santa Hermandad, notifique la providencia antecedente a Dona CELESTINA GONZALEZ en su persona, de que certifico A FALTA DE ESCRIBANO PUBLICO NI REAL, POR NO HABERLO EN ESTA JURISDICCION. RAMON LERENA.' SO: an ALCALDE DE LA SANTA HERMANDAD - a rural magistrate of the Spanish countryside jurisdiction - of a PARTIDO DEL ROSARIO, acting on 6 NOVEMBER 1800 in the estate of DON CLEMENTE GARCIA, notifying his widow DONA CELESTINA GONZALEZ about inventories of goods left to a minor. AND HE WROTE. He signs twice and certifies in his own hand because there was no notary in the district - which is a plain statement about how thinly governed that country was, and a contrast worth drawing with SANCHO LLERENA, who nine years earlier could not sign his name. IS IT THIS MAN? THE DATE FITS EXACTLY AND THE PLACE IS INDICATED BUT NOT PROVED. This row has him flourishing c.1800-1820 at ROSARIO, and the file elsewhere mentions a 'vecindad del partido ORIENTAL', which points at the Banda Oriental and so at ROSARIO ORIENTAL in Colonia - this row's own Rosario. BUT THERE IS ALSO A PARTIDO DEL ROSARIO ON THE ARGENTINE SIDE, the probate was administered at Buenos Aires, which had viceregal jurisdiction over both banks, and THE OCR AROUND THE WORD 'ORIENTAL' IS BROKEN - the sentence cannot be read whole. NOT MERGED INTO THIS ROW AS FACT. THE TEST IS CHEAP AND NAMED: read further in the same file, where an alcalde's jurisdiction is normally stated in full, and check whether the Partido del Rosario it means is the Oriental one. 249 images, item 12 of image group #107093472, and only this frame has been read. THE PLACE IS SETTLED, AND BY THE COURT'S OWN WORDS - 11 October 2026, hours after this row said it was indicated and not proved. The providencia that set the whole business going is at image 22, and it addresses 'El Alcalde de la Santa Hermandad del PARTIDO DEL ROSARIO, EN LA OTRA BANDA ORIENTAL de este [Rio]' - so the Rosario is URUGUAYAN, not the Argentine Rosario and not Villa del Rosario in Cordoba. AND THE WIDOW IS 'VECINA DEL COLLA'. This row has called him 'of Rosario-Colla' since the archive's early weeks, on the strength of the 1858 kinship diagram. THE COURT PUTS HIM IN EXACTLY THAT PLACE, HOLDING OFFICE THERE, IN 1800. WHAT HE WAS DOING, across five weeks: JOSE RIERA, Alcalde Ordinario de Segundo Voto and Juez de Menores of Buenos Aires, ordered him to inventory the estate of DON CLEMENTE GARCIA because the widow DONA CELESTINA GONZALEZ was RESISTING it - she had 'pasado a segundas nupcias, teniendo hijo menor'. On 14 October 1800 Ramon went to her house with JUAN DE URDINARAN and FRANCISCO PEREZ DE CEBALLOS and notified her in the presence of her second husband; on the 15th he began at 'la nominada Villa del Rosario'; on 6 November he decreed and signed; on the 11th he went again with Perez de Ceballos, BARTOLOME PARTIA and ANDRES PAIS; and on the 12th the appraisal continued before NICOLAS YRIGOYEN as witness. THROUGHOUT HE CERTIFIES 'A FALTA DE ESCRIBANO PUBLICO NI REAL, POR NO HABERLO EN ESTA JURISDICCION' and signs his own name. AN OBSERVATION THAT IS NOT AN ARGUMENT: the 1858 diagram puts RAMON LERENA and MARIA GONZALEZ at the apex, and the woman at the centre of this file is a GONZALEZ of the Colla. GONZALEZ IS ONE OF THE COMMONEST SURNAMES IN THE RIO DE LA PLATA AND NO CONNECTION IS CLAIMED. HIS OFFICE GOES BACK FOUR YEARS FURTHER, AND BEFORE IT THERE IS A CAREER - 11 October 2026. 1796: a second probate, that of MANUEL CHABO and MARIA MARTA AGAICHU, closes 'Lo proveyo, mando y firmo D. RAMON LERENA, ALCALDE DE LA SANTA HERMANDAD DEL PARTIDO DEL ROSARIO, a veintiocho dias del mes de OCTUBRE DE MIL SETECIENTOS NOVENTA Y SEIS anos'. SO HE HELD THE OFFICE AT LEAST 1796-1800, NOT MERELY IN THE ONE YEAR THIS ARCHIVE HAD. 1794, AND HE IS NOT THE MAGISTRATE YET - THIS IS THE FIND THAT MATTERS. In the earlier file on the same estate, the alcalde of the day walks out to 'la ESTANCIA del finado Don CLEMENTE GARCIA' and there 'parecieron ante mi y testigos Don GERONIMO ALONSO y Don RAMON LERENA, SUJETOS NOMBRADOS POR LA VIUDA PARA CONTAR Y TASAR EL GANADO Y CABALLOS de dicha estancia'. They were told of the appointment, accepted, swore separately to do it faithfully, and signed. SO IN 1794 HE IS A MAN A WIDOW PICKS TO COUNT HER CATTLE, AND BY 1796 HE IS THE MAGISTRATE OF THE DISTRICT. That is the only thing resembling a biography this archive holds for anyone of this family before 1850 - not a birth, a marriage or a death, but a trade, a reputation and a rise. AND IT TELLS US WHAT HE WAS GOOD FOR: livestock. A man called in to value cattle and horses on an estancia is a man who knew stock, which is the ordinary competence of the Banda Oriental countryside and the likeliest reason the Santa Hermandad - a rural constabulary - wanted him. WHAT HE PRESIDED OVER IN 1796 IS NOT PRETTY, and is recorded because it is the only case of his this archive has read other than the Garcia estate: the Chabo petition argues that Maria Marta Agaichu gave her husband a power of attorney without understanding it - 'la pobre muchacha criada sin instruccion al lado de sus padres INDIOS GUARANIES, ignorando en todo lo que se le perjudica en el poder que le dio a su marido, TAL VEZ ATEMORIZADA'. THOSE PEOPLE ARE NOT IN THIS REGISTER AND SHOULD NOT BE - he was the official, not a party, which is the boundary written into tools/check-people-named.py the same day.
