Mauricio LERENA (b. c.1836, of the First Section of Flores)
A SECOND MAURICIO LERENA, AND HE IS NOT THE MAN WHO MARRIED AT SAN JOSE IN 1837. He signs as a witness on a Flores death act of May 1886: 'D. MAURICIO LERENA de CINCUENTA anos de edad, oriental, casado, hacendado... vecino de esta Seccion', and the signature MAURICIO LERENA is in his own hand. THE AGE WAS READ OFF THE PLATE BECAUSE THE TRANSCRIPT GARBLES IT TO 'VEINCUENTA', and the age is the whole of what separates these two men. FIFTY IN 1886 IS A BIRTH ABOUT 1836, where the other Mauricio married in February 1837. NOT ENTERED AS HIS SON: 1836 is before that marriage, so either the stated age is loose in the ordinary way - which it often is - or they are not father and son. THE DISTINCTION IS CARRIED, NOT RESOLVED. AND HE COULD WRITE, WHERE CIPRIANO LERENA COULD NOT.
No record here names a parent, spouse, child or sibling for this person. This archive calls that unplaced: held, named, shown with the record that produced them, and not tied to a household on anything less.
