What is known
A SON OF MAURICIO LERENA AND BRIGIDA CESPEDES DIED AT SARANDI GRANDE, 24 APRIL 1918, AT TWENTY-TWO, FOUND 5 November 2026. Act no. 24 (Sarandi Grande, 25 April 1918; READ AT THE PLATE, the date, age and birthplace zoomed): two declarants (a Spanish merchant of 48 and an empleado of 38) declare that at twenty past eighteen hours of the day before, 24 April, died 'Jose Lerena, del sexo masculino, de nacionalidad oriental, nacido en Piedras Coloradas de este departamento, de veintidos anos, soltero, de profesion empleado', of 'fiebre tifoidea'; 'hijo legitimo de don Mauricio Lerena, oriental, finado, y de dona Brigida Cespedes, oriental, de cincuenta y siete anos, viuda, de profesion labores [of Sarandi Grande]; abuelos paternos Mauricio Lerena y Casimira Montano, orientales, finados; maternos Evaristo Cespedes y Brigida Caballero, orientales, fallecidos'. Brigida is shown alive on 25 April 1918 (the act has her as the widow of Mauricio, who died 27 January 1917: see his row). WHICH JOSE: the death act of his father (27 January 1917) names the seven children of the second marriage as Mauricio, Manuel Mauricio, Jose Esteban, Casimira, Irene, Maria Josefa and Jose Maria; a Jose of 22 in April 1918 (b. 1895-96) fits Jose Esteban, and not Jose Maria (the Juan Jose Maria of 26 December 1901, held, 16 in 1918). THE IDENTIFICATION IS THE ARITHMETIC OF TWO ACTS; the act of 1918 does not say 'Esteban', and no baptism of a Jose Esteban is held. He is NOT the Jose Lerena, empleado, of 1913 (a son of Manuel Lerena and Mariana Trujillo, held, who lived to 1953). PLATE READ.
