Arturo LERENA (oriental, b. c.1857, father of Eduardo)

A NEW HEAD OF A MONTEVIDEO HOUSEHOLD, 11 October 2026. Named on his son's marriage act of 11 January 1920 as 'ARTURO LERENA, de nacionalidad ORIENTAL, de estado CASADO, de SESENTA Y DOS anos, domiciliado en MONTEVIDEO' - so born about 1857-58, alive and married in January 1920, living in the capital. His wife is EMA REGULES. HE IS NOT ARTURO LERENA GARCIA, who is in this register as a SPANISH journalist with sons surnamed LERENA DIAZ by Amalia Diaz. Nationality separates them on the face of the two acts and they are kept apart; see data/_person-pairs.txt. WHAT HE OPENS: a Lerena born about 1857 in Uruguay, with a son born in Montevideo in 1886, is exactly the generation this archive searches for Juan Carlos - and he is not Juan Carlos, because his son's act names him plainly. HIS OWN PARENTS ARE NOT ON THIS ACT, which is the ordinary limit of a Uruguayan civil marriage: it names the couple's parents and stops. HIS OWN MARRIAGE ACT, FOUND WITHIN THE HOUR - AND IT PUTS HIM IN SANCHO'S HOUSE. 'En VEINTE Y TRES DE JUNIO de mil ochocientos OCHENTA, el Presbitero Don JUAN JOSE BRID, con licencia del Cura Parroco de esta BASILICA MENOR Y CATEDRAL DE MONTEVIDEO, DISPENSADAS LAS TRES CONCILIARES PROCLAMAS por el Ilustrisimo y Reverendisimo Senor Obispo Diocesano DON JACINTO VERA, autorizo... el matrimonio que contrajo el DOCTOR DON ARTURO [L]ERENA, natural de esta Republica, soltero, de VEINTE Y DOS ANOS de edad, HIJO LEGITIMO DE DON AVELINO LERENA Y DONA AMBROSIA TRAIBEL, con DONA EMMA REGULES... de DIEZ Y SEIS ANOS de edad, hija legitima de DON WENCESLAO REGULES y DONA JUSTINIANA MELILLA: fueron testigos el DOCTOR DON AMBROSIO LERENA y Dona Justiniana Melilla de Regules.' SO HE IS A SON OF AVELINO LERENA AND AMBROSIA TRAIBEL - THE HEAD OF THE LERENA TRAIBEL BRANCH, AND SANCHO'S SON. That makes his son EDUARDO a great-grandson of Sancho Llerena, and the Argentine household at Adolfo Alsina a branch of this archive's own trunk rather than a namesake. HE IS A DOCTOR, which no other man in this register is, and he was twenty-two in June 1880 - born about 1857-58, which agrees exactly with the SIXTY-TWO years his son's act gives him in January 1920. AND THE ARCHIVE ALREADY HOLDS A SON OF THAT COUPLE CALLED JUAN ARTURO, born 16 February 1861 - NOT MERGED. A man born in February 1861 was NINETEEN in June 1880, not twenty-two, and this archive has his baptismal date from the Cordon. AN AGE ON A MARRIAGE ACT BENDS BY A YEAR; IT DOES NOT USUALLY BEND BY THREE, and the couple had eleven known children already, so a twelfth named Arturo is not a strain. See data/_person-pairs.txt. A LEAD NOT YET OPENED: the Montevideo civil marriages of 1907-08 carry a 'Dona EMMA LERENA REGULES' with her parents given as 'don Arturo Lerena' and 'Emma Regules' - a daughter, marrying. HE IS A LAWYER, NOT A PHYSICIAN - AND THIS ROW SAID 'DOCTOR' FOR AN HOUR WITHOUT ASKING WHICH KIND. His daughter's marriage act of 9 August 1909 gives him plainly: 'hija de don ARTURO LERENA, de estado casado, DE PROFESION ABOGADO, de nacionalidad oriental, domiciliado en la calle COLONIA 2200'. In Uruguay DOCTOR IS THE STYLE OF AN ABOGADO as much as of a medico, and the 1880 marriage act's 'el Doctor Don Arturo Lerena' carries no more than that. THE OCCUPATION FIELD IS CORRECTED AND SO IS THE INFERENCE DRAWN FROM IT: this archive wrote that the Lerena Traibel were 'a professional household' on the strength of two men called Doctor, which remains true, and said it in a way that suggested medicine, which was never stated. A SECOND CHILD, 12 October 2026: EMMA LERENA REGULES, born 18 May 1885 at SAN JOSE, who married Fermin Carlos de Yeregui at Montevideo on 9 August 1909. SO THE HOUSEHOLD WAS AT SAN JOSE IN 1885 AND AT MONTEVIDEO IN 1886, where his son Eduardo was born on 22 April. THOSE TWO BIRTHS ARE ELEVEN MONTHS APART, which is possible and tight, and is recorded as a tension rather than resolved. AND IN 1909 HE AND HIS WIFE ARE GIVEN AT DIFFERENT ADDRESSES - he at calle Colonia 2200, she at calle Colonia 228 - both 'de estado casado'. The numbers differ by a factor of ten and the likeliest reading is a transcriber's slip rather than a separation; NOT RESOLVED. HIS WHOLE KNOWN SIBSHIP, FROM ONE PARENT-PAIR QUERY - 12 October 2026. Six children by Emma Regules: EMA JUSTINA FELICIA (b. 18 May 1881, San Jose), ARTURO MARIO (b. 9 April 1884, San Jose, who died at Montevideo in 1949), EMMA (b. 18 May 1885, San Jose), EDUARDO (b. 22 April 1886, Montevideo), CORA MARIA AVELINA (b. 8 June 1887, christened at the Union 23 October 1887) and ROBERTO AMBROSIO (b. 1 November 1896, Montevideo). AND TWO OF THOSE NAMES CORROBORATE HIS OWN PARENTAGE WITHOUT A SECOND ACT. The 1880 marriage makes him a son of AVELINO LERENA and AMBROSIA TRAIBEL; his fifth child is AVELINA and his sixth is AMBROSIO. A HOUSEHOLD NAMES ITS CHILDREN FOR ITS OWN PARENTS, and this one did it twice. THE FAMILY MOVED: San Jose from 1881 to 1885, Montevideo from 1886. AND THERE IS A NINE-YEAR GAP, 1887 to 1896, which in a household of this period usually means children this query did not reach - deaths in infancy, or acts indexed under another spelling. HIS DEATH ACT, AND IT IS THE BEST DOCUMENT THIS HOUSEHOLD HAS - 12 October 2026. SO: d. 2 March 1936, at two in the morning, at Treinta y Tres 269, aged 78, a lawyer. The act confirms his parents a second time and confirms the profession correction made the same day. AND IT NAMES FIVE SURVIVING CHILDREN WHERE THE INDEX GAVE SIX. Ema, Mario, Eduardo, Cora and Roberto - which is this register's sibship with ONLY ONE EMA. That does not settle the two daughters born on 18 May, in 1881 and 1885: five surviving of six is what the act would say if one had died. IT DOES TILT IT - see the rows for both women. THE AGE IS THE THIRD INDEPENDENT STATEMENT OF HIS BIRTH YEAR AND THEY ALL AGREE: twenty-two in June 1880, sixty-two in January 1920, seventy-eight in March 1936 - 1857, 1857-58, 1857-58. AGAINST ONE BAPTISM OF A 'JUAN ARTURO' IN FEBRUARY 1861. FAMILYSEARCH'S OWN TREE HAS ALREADY MERGED THEM, attaching this death record to a profile 'Juan Arturo Lerena Traibel, 1861-1936'. THAT IS A TREE, NOT A DOCUMENT, and this register keeps the two apart until an act does the joining. THE DECLARANTS WERE NOT FAMILY: an Italian employee of forty and an oriental of twenty-three, neither named Lerena, which is the ordinary shape of a city death registration and means the ages in it are secondhand.
