Alejandro M. LERENA (m.1 Elisa VILLADEMOROS; m.2 Julia BASSANI)

THE ALEJANDRO M. LERENA OF THE ARMY ENROLMENT CARDS, CAJON 985 - and the M. is on the acts, in the clerk's hand, not only in the index. He appeared in person twice: on 6 November 1886, "parecieron don Alejandro M. Lerena, de cuarenta y dos anos de edad, viudo, escribano, oriental, domiciliado en la calle San Jose N 17"; and again in March 1888, "comparecieron don Alejandro M. Lerena de 43 anos de edad de estado viudo de nacionalidad Oriental". TWO AGES SIXTEEN MONTHS APART, CONSISTENT WITH EACH OTHER, PUT HIS BIRTH BETWEEN 17 MARCH AND 6 NOVEMBER 1844. The tree's "born Uruguay 1839" is five years out on both acts and is a tree value, not a record. HE IS A WIDOWER IN 1886 while Julia Bassani is twenty-two and soltera, so there is an earlier marriage and an earlier death in Montevideo - and a marriage act names the groom's parents, which is now the shortest route to his parentage. THE 1888 ACT IS A PRINTED FORM WHOSE RULED LINE READS "Que es nieta por linea paterna de ______" AND THE LINE IS BLANK. So is the maternal one. The form asked this archive's question and nobody wrote the answer on it. NOT MERGED with Alejandro LERENA TRAIBEL (b. 1843 or 1845, son of Avelino) - the ages miss both of that man's candidate dates by one year, in opposite directions, which cannot choose between them. See data/the-three-alejandros.tsv. MAXIMO IS NOW ATTESTED ON A PLATE, 22 September 2026, and not only in the tree. His son Hector's marriage act of 25 February 1911 at San Carlos, Buenos Aires, names him in the priest's hand as "D. ALEJANDRO MAXIMO [Lerena], natural de la Rep. Oriental". So the bare "M." of the two Montevideo birth acts expands to MAXIMO, and the Alejandro M. Lerena of army Cajon 985 has the same expansion. He was still being named as a living father's name in Buenos Aires in 1911. AND HIS FIRST WIFE MAY BE NAMED AT LAST, 27 September 2026. He is viudo on both Montevideo acts of 1886 and 1888, and this archive has been hunting the marriage that made him one. The Iglesia Matriz act of 29 September 1872 names the godparents of a Lerena Traibel child as 'ALEJANDRO M. LERENA y ELISA VILLADEMOROS, a quienes instruyo' - read off the plate. THE M. IS THE TELL: no other Alejandro in this register carries it, and the archive's separate row 'Alejandro LERENA (m. Elisa VILLARDEMOROS)' has a son christened at the Cordon on 29 May 1873. THIS IS NOT YET A MERGE - the two rows still stand, and data/_person-pairs.txt has been rewritten to say why the old reason for keeping them apart was wrong. A man who is a WIDOWER in 1886 and a husband in 1872 is one man with two wives in sequence, which is the ordinary case and is exactly what this archive mistook for two men. ANSWERED, 27 SEPTEMBER 2026, AND IT IS THE QUESTION THIS ARCHIVE HAS CARRIED SINCE 14 SEPTEMBER. data/the-three-alejandros.tsv called his parentage 'NOT KNOWN ... This is the whole obstacle'. HIS PARENTS ARE AVELINO LERENA AND AMBROSIA TRAIBEL. The Cordon act of 26 December 1877, read off film 007713388 image 02455: 'hija legitima de D. ALEJANDRO M. LERENA y de D.a ELISA [VILLADEMOROS] (hoy finada), orientales. ABUELOS PATERNOS D. AVELINO y D.a AMBROSIA TRAIBEL'. SO THE ALEJANDRO M. LERENA OF ARMY DRAWER CAJON 985 IS A LERENA TRAIBEL - a grandson of Sancho Llerena, and a brother of Josefa, Alberto, Alfredo Justiniano, Ana Rosario and the rest. AND THE WIDOWHOOD IS DATED. Elisa is 'HOY FINADA' on 26 December 1877 and her daughter was born 19 September 1876, so she died inside those fifteen months - which is why he is 'viudo' on both Montevideo acts of 1886 and 1888. WHAT REMAINS IS ONE ROW, NOT ONE QUESTION: this register also holds ALEJANDRO LERENA TRAIBEL, baptised at La Mauricia on 7 January 1846, a son of the same couple with the same forename, whose birth the act puts at 29 May 1843 or 1845 against the 1844 these acts give. Same parents, same name, compatible dates. They are almost certainly one man and are not yet merged; see data/_person-pairs.txt. AND HIS MARRIAGE TO ELISA IS A CONTROLLED NULL, 27 September 2026. Searched under LERENA and under SERENA - the spelling that hid the 1877 act - for a marriage to a Villademoros in Uruguay: nothing. THE CONTROL PASSED IN THE SAME MINUTES: the Montevideo parish marriage of Luis Lerena and Julia Juanico, 19 December 1864 at San Francisco de Asis, returns with the groom's parents attached - so marriages of that era and city ARE indexed, and they DO carry the parents. THE NULL THEREFORE MEANS THE ACT IS NOT IN THE INDEXED CORPUS, NOT THAT IT DOES NOT EXIST. Their eldest known child was born 29 October 1872, so the marriage falls about 1868-1872, most likely at the Cordon. It would name his parents a second time and give his AGE, which is the one thing that would separate the 1843 reading from the 1845. AND A THIRD RECORD PAIRS HIM WITH ELISA VILLADEMOROS, this time in ARGENTINA. His son Alejandro Joaquin married at Bell Ville, Cordoba, in 1907, and the act names the groom's parents as 'ALEJANDRO M LERENA' and 'ELISA VILLADEMORAS'. The Montevideo font of 1872, the Cordon christening of 1877 and now a Cordoba marriage of 1907 all carry the same couple and the same initial. AND HE WAS DEAD BY 20 JUNE 1907, WHICH IS THE FIRST EVIDENCE OF HIS DEATH FROM ANY RECORD. His son Alejandro Joaquin's marriage at San Jeronimo, Cordoba, names the groom 'hijo legitimo de ALEJANDRO M. [LERENA] y ELISA VILLADEMORAS (FINADOS)' - both parents deceased, on the plate. SO HIS DEATH FALLS BETWEEN MARCH 1888, when he appeared in person at Montevideo to register Emilia Alberta, AND JUNE 1907. The family tree's '1903' sits inside that bracket and now has a record-based ceiling for the first time, though the tree's date itself is still only a tree's. AND THE ACT IS A FOURTH INDEPENDENT STATEMENT OF HIS NAME WITH THE M. - Montevideo 1872, the Cordon 1877, Buenos Aires 1911, and now Cordoba 1907. AND ON 9 OCTOBER 2026 HE WAS MERGED WITH THE 'ALEJANDRO LERENA (m. ELISA VILLARDEMOROS)' THIS REGISTER CARRIED SEPARATELY. They were PROVED THE SAME MAN ON 27 SEPTEMBER and kept apart for twelve days afterwards for a reason the pair file states in terms: 'a merge touches slugs, last-attested-alive.tsv, relations.tsv and the CHECKED_PAIRS in tools/consistency.py, and a half-done merge is worse than an honest pair. THIS LINE IS A DEBT, NOT A JUDGEMENT.' The debt is paid. WHAT PROVED IT: the Cordon act of 26 December 1877, film 007713388 image 02455, names 'D. ALEJANDRO M. LERENA y ... D.a ELISA [VILLADEMOROS] (hoy finada)' as the parents of Jacinta Mercedes Gregoria, and gives his own parents as 'D. AVELINO y D.a AMBROSIA TRAIBEL'. Same wife, same initial, one man - and the 1886 act calls him viudo while Julia Bassani is soltera, which is the second marriage this merged name now carries. A SECOND LERENA MARRIED A SECOND VILLADEMOROS, and the two marriages are probably one alliance. He and ELISA VILLARDEMOROS had a son christened at the Cordon on 29 May 1873. In the same decade AVELINO EDUARDO LERENA - documented as a son of Avelino Lerena and Ambrosia Traibel - married CELEDONIA VILLADEMOROS. THREE THINGS TIE THE TWO BAPTISMS TOGETHER: the surname on both mothers; a JOAQUIN standing godfather at each, indexed "Joaquin Requena" on one and "Joaquin Regusa y Garcia" on the other, which is one name and one machine mangling it; and the godmother here is ANGELICA VILLADEMOROS, while Celedonia's mother is ANGELICA MENDEZ - a daughter named for her. THE INFERENCE: two Lerena brothers married two Villademoros sisters, which is the same shape as the two Lerena siblings who married two Cardozo siblings and produced the 1911 dispensation. WHAT IS NOT DOCUMENTED: this act does NOT name his own parents, so he is NOT joined to Alejandro Lerena Traibel here, though the age fits - that man was born 1843 or 1845 and would be twenty-seven or twenty-nine. THE TEST: the two marriage acts, or any record naming this Alejandro's father. AND THE TEST NAMED ABOVE WAS RUN THE SAME EVENING AND CAME BACK EMPTY. LERENA with spouse surname VILLADEMOROS, Uruguay: 6,352 records, and not one of them is a marriage act. Every hit is a parent entry on somebody else's baptism or civil registration. The control is the one that worked two hours earlier: the same query shape on LERENA with spouse JUANICO puts the marriage act of 19 December 1864 at RANK ONE. So the shape finds a marriage when there is one to find. NEITHER VILLADEMOROS MARRIAGE IS IN THE INDEXED RECORD, and the brothers-and-sisters reading stays an inference. It would be settled by the parish marriage books of the Cordon and Union, which have not been walked. THE NULL PUBLISHED AGAINST THIS ROW RESTS ON A CONTROL THAT DID NOT CONTROL FOR THE RIGHT RISK - noted 21 September 2026, and the null is NOT withdrawn. The finding was that LERENA with spouse surname VILLADEMOROS returns 6,352 records and not one marriage act, controlled by LERENA with spouse JUANICO, which put the 1864 marriage at rank one. JUANICO HAS ONE SPELLING AND VILLADEMOROS HAS AT LEAST THREE. This register already holds VILLADEMOROS, VILLARDEMOROS and, from a death registration read today, VILLADEMORO. And on the same day a parent-pair query on this surname returned a ZERO that a single deleted parameter turned into SEVEN. So the control proved the query SHAPE works; it did not prove that this SURNAME is reachable through it. The two marriage acts may be absent from the index, or they may be present under a spelling nobody asked for. Until the Cordon and Union marriage books are walked, the difference is not known - and that is a weaker claim than the one this archive published. READ OFF THE PLATE 27 September 2026, and it settles his birthplace and not his parents. The Cordon act of 29 May 1873 reads 'hijo legitimo de D. ALEJANDRO LERENA [y Da. Elisa Villademoros], ORIENTALES. Padrinos D. JOAQUIN REGUSA y Da. ANGELICA VILLADEMOROS.' THE ACT NAMES NO GRANDPARENTS - this parish's 1873 form does not recite them - so the plate that would have answered the whole question does not. What it does give is ORIENTAL, Uruguayan-born, which matches the 'oriental' of the 1886 and 1888 acts of Alejandro M. Lerena. See the note on that row: the two may be one man. AND THE 1877 ACT SPELLS HIM WITH THE M., AND NAMES HIS PARENTS. 'D. ALEJANDRO M. LERENA ... abuelos paternos D. AVELINO y D.a AMBROSIA TRAIBEL'. THIS ROW AND 'Alejandro M. LERENA (with Julia BASSANI)' ARE THE SAME MAN - the same wife, the same initial, and now the same parents - and they remain two rows only until the merge is done properly. See data/_person-pairs.txt. HIS FIRST MARRIAGE IS FOUND, 11 OCTOBER 2026, AND THE 'M.' IS MAXIMO. He married ELISA VILLADEMOROS at Nuestra Senora del Carmen La Mayor, CORDON, Montevideo, on 28 DECEMBER 1871 - a date work-list row 185 had sought since September and had concluded 'must be walked by image'. IT WAS NOT IN THE RECORD INDEX AND IT IS IN THE FULL-TEXT CORPUS, which is a different instrument. WHAT IT GIVES: his full name ALEJANDRO MAXIMO; that he was SOLTERO and NATURAL DE MONTEVIDEO; and his parents AVELINO and AMBROSIA TRAIBEL named a second time and independently of the enrolment cards. HIS MOTHER STOOD AS A WITNESS AT HIS WEDDING - 'Dona AMBROSIA T. de SERENA' - so she was living in December 1871. WHAT IT DOES NOT GIVE, AND ROW 185 WANTED IT MOST: HIS AGE. The act states his status and his birthplace and no number, so THE 1843-AGAINST-1845 QUESTION ON THE LA MAURICIA ACT IS UNTOUCHED BY THIS FIND and remains open. AND IT ESTABLISHES A PATTERN THIS ARCHIVE HAS NOW SEEN TWICE IN ONE DAY: TWO BROTHERS MARRIED TWO SISTERS. ALEJANDRO MAXIMO LERENA and AVELINO EDUARDO LERENA TRAIBEL are both sons of AVELINO LERENA FERNANDEZ and AMBROSIA TRAIBEL; ELISA and CELEDONIA VILLADEMOROS are both daughters of PEDRO VILLADEMOROS and ANGELICA. SO THE LERENA VILLADEMOROS COUSINS ARE DOUBLE FIRST COUSINS - exactly the structure that forced a dispensation at Trinidad in 1911, here produced in Montevideo a generation earlier. NO DISPENSATION OF KINSHIP WAS NEEDED FOR THE MARRIAGES THEMSELVES, because the two families were not related before them; what was dispensed in 1871 was TWO CONCILIAR BANNS, a dispensation of notice and not of blood.

At the font. They stood godfather to Angelica Maria LERENA Villademoros. Godparent ties are not drawn in the chart above — it shows parents, spouses, children and siblings — but this family chose godparents from inside itself often enough that the pattern is evidence in its own right.

What is known
