Leonarda Margarita LERENA Vega

Daughter of Pedro Antonio Lerena and Vicenta Vega, born 20 February 1837 and baptised at the Catedral on 4 July. A granddaughter of Sancho. Her godparents were her uncle DON LUIS LERENA and his first wife DONA CAROLINA ORIBE - the act that gives that marriage its true surname. READ OFF THE PLATE 21 September 2026, where this row had rested on a MACHINE TRANSCRIPT. Film 007713376 image 01498, Catedral de Montevideo - the baptism of 4 July 1837, signed RAMON DE BARBERA. EVERY READING IN THIS ROW SURVIVES THE PLATE, word for word: 'En cuatro de Julio de mil ochocientos trein[ta y siete]: Yo el infrascripto Tt.e bautize ... que nacio el VEINTE DE FEBRERO ULTIMO, hija leg.a de D. PEDRO ANTONIO LERENA ... nat.l del CERRO LARGO. Abuel[os] p[aternos] D. SANCHO y D.na MARIA FERNANDEZ. Mat[ernos] D. Ro[mualdo Vega] ... Padrin[os] D. LUIS LERENA y D.na CAROLINA ORIBE.' The margin writes her LERENA with a single L, where the 1811 and 1831 acts write the grandfather LLERENA with two. AND SHE IS ABSENT FROM HER PARENTS' HOUSE IN 1850, WHICH IS NOW A QUESTION RATHER THAN A DATING ARGUMENT. Montevideo household 229 - re-dated on 12 October 2026 to the padron of LIBRO 264, 1850 - lists Pedro A. Lerena, Vicenta Vega and three children, and she is not among them. This archive formerly offered her absence as proof the census was earlier than 1837. That inference is withdrawn: film 7499042 carries no padron before 1843 at all. At the padron of 1850 she would be thirteen and should be in the house. FOUND THE SAME EVENING, AND SHE IS IN THE SAME PADRON. She is entered at casa 229 of CALLE SARANDI, blanca and oriental, aged eleven where thirteen would be right - an ordinary census age. Her parents are at a DIFFERENT casa 229, on another street: two houses of the same number in one padron, which is why 'household 229' was never an identifier. And she is the only white person in that house: the four adults with her - Estanislada 20, Sinforiano 19, Manuela 60 and Rosa 46 - all carry the surname by ditto, three are recorded morena, and Manuela's patria is AFRICA.
