Manuel LERENA Leonard (m. Juana Galarza 1890)

HE ANSWERS HALF OF WORK-LIST ROW 187, found 11 October 2026. Born about 1866, son of PEDRO ANTONIO LERENA and TERESA LEONARD, he married JUANA GALARZA on 19 FEBRUARY 1890 at Nuestra Senora del Carmen La Mayor, CORDON, Montevideo, and died at Montevideo on 1 APRIL 1926, registered the next day. WHY THIS MATTERS TO ROW 187: that row holds a findmypast household of 'MANUEL x JUANA FERREIROZ', Montevideo 1891 - a child baptised the year after this wedding, to a Manuel and a Juana, in the same city. THE TWO ARE PROBABLY ONE COUPLE AND 'FERREIROZ' IS PROBABLY A MISREADING OF GALARZA, which is the kind of error this archive has catalogued many times. NOT MERGED: the surnames are not close enough to assert it, the findmypast transcript has not been re-read, and neither act has been opened. THE TEST IS CHEAP: open the 1891 baptism and read the mother's surname. THAT HYPOTHESIS WAS WEAKENED WITHIN THE HOUR AND IS WITHDRAWN AS STATED. A search on the forename FELICIA turned up the 1891 child herself - FELICIA LERENA, born 6 May 1891 and christened 16 May 1891 at Montevideo - in TWO SEPARATE COLLECTIONS, the civil register and the parish baptisms, and BOTH NAME THE MOTHER 'JUANA FERREIROZ'. One index mangling a surname is ordinary; two independent records agreeing on it is evidence that the surname IS Ferreiroz. SO MANUEL x JUANA FERREIROZ IS PROBABLY A DIFFERENT COUPLE FROM MANUEL LERENA LEONARD x JUANA GALARZA, and the resemblance was only the forename Juana and the city. THE TEST IS UNCHANGED AND NOW MATTERS MORE: open the 1891 baptism.
