Jacinta Mercedes Gregoria LERENA Villademoros

THE CHILD WHOSE BAPTISM ANSWERED THE ARCHIVE'S OLDEST OPEN QUESTION. Born 19 September 1876 and baptised at the Cordon on 26 December 1877, fifteen months later - and the delay is the point, because her mother had died in between. The act reads: 'El P. D. JOSE BALBI bautizo a JACINTA MERCEDES GREGORIA, nacida el 19 de Sept. ultimo, hija legitima de D. ALEJANDRO M. LERENA y de D.a ELISA [VILLADEMOROS] (HOY FINADA), orientales. ABUELOS PATERNOS D. AVELINO y D.a AMBROSIA TRAIBEL, maternos D. PEDRO y D.a ANGELICA MENDEZ. Padrinos D. HERMENEGILDO FUENTES y D.a MERCEDES MENDEZ.' TWO THINGS THE INDEX GOT WRONG AND THE PLATE GOT RIGHT: it reads the father as 'Alejandro M. SERENA' - the S-for-L this archive has now met five times - and the grandmother as 'Ambrosia TRECIBEL'. Both are LERENA and TRAIBEL in the priest's hand. SHE IS IN BUENOS AIRES IN 1918, WITH A HUSBAND AND A DAUGHTER, 10 October 2026. The Basilica San Jose de Flores baptised BEATRIZ ELIZA DEL CORAZON DE JESUS on 20 January 1918, born 17 November 1917: 'hija legitima de D. EUGENIO MARCOS ABELLA, natural de URUGUAY, de cuarenta y un anos, y de Dona JACINTA LERENA VILLADEMOROS, natural de URUGUAY, de treinta y seis anos, domiciliados en MEMBRILLAR 96'. SO THE VILLADEMOROS BRANCH CROSSED TO BUENOS AIRES - a Montevideo family in a Flores parish of the Argentine capital, which is a different Flores entirely from the Uruguayan department this archive works in. THE AGE DOES NOT AGREE WITH THIS ROW AND IS RECORDED AS A CONFLICT: she is given as thirty-six in January 1918, which is a birth about 1881, where this row carries 19 September 1876 from her baptism - she would be forty-one. A STATED AGE ON A BAPTISM ACT IS THE PARENT'S OWN ACCOUNT AND IS OFTEN SHORT, and this archive does not change a baptismal date on the strength of one. THE IDENTIFICATION RESTS ON THE COMPOUND SURNAME, WHICH IS RARE, AND ON URUGUAYAN BIRTH.
