Dona Celestina GONZALEZ (widow of Clemente Garcia)
The widow whom RAMON LERENA notified in person on 6 November 1800, 'a quien ... notifique la providencia antecedente a Dona CELESTINA GONZALEZ en su persona'. She had written to the Alcalde del Partido del Rosario about the inventories. SHE IS THE PERSON A LERENA WAS STANDING IN FRONT OF on the only day in 1800 this archive can place him. Admitted 11 October 2026 under the rule written that day: a person named on an act this archive has read is a person in this register, whatever their role. SHE IS A VECINA DEL COLLA, AND SHE FOUGHT THE COURT. The providencia of 1800 calls her 'Dona CELESTINA GONZALEZ, VECINA DEL COLLA, viuda del finado Don CLEMENTE GARCIA' and records 'la resistencia que hace para la faccion de Ymbentarios de su difunto marido'. She had written to the Alcalde on the sixteenth; he wrote to Buenos Aires on the twenty-fourth; the Juez de Menores ordered the inventory made anyway. THE REASON SHE WAS COMPELLED: she had REMARRIED while she had a minor child - 'por haber pasado a segundas nupcias, teniendo hijo menor' - which made her tutora y curadora of the boy's inheritance and the court's business. RAMON LERENA NOTIFIED HER IN THE PRESENCE OF HER SECOND HUSBAND, who is not named in the frames read. SHE IS THE ONLY PERSON THIS ARCHIVE CAN PLACE IN A ROOM WITH RAMON LERENA. AND SHE COULD NOT WRITE EITHER. At the close of her declaration: 'no firmo porque dijo no saber [escribir]', and her husband signed with the witnesses in her place. THAT IS THE THIRD PERSON IN ONE DAY'S READING WHO COULD NOT SIGN - Sancho Llerena in 1800, Francisco de los Santos de Acuna before him, and now the woman who held the shop and the mill of the Rosario in trust for her son. RAMON LERENA, WHO SIGNED HIS OWN NAME TWICE, WAS THE LITERATE ONE IN THAT ROOM. AND SHE CHOSE RAMON LERENA HERSELF, IN 1794. The earlier file names him and GERONIMO ALONSO as 'sujetos NOMBRADOS POR LA VIUDA' to count and value the cattle and horses of her husband's estancia, and she separately named LORENZO MARTINEZ DE OLALLA to act for her. THIS IS WHY THE GARCIA HOUSEHOLD BELONGS IN THIS REGISTER AND THE CHABO HOUSEHOLD DOES NOT: in 1794 Ramon Lerena was not the official but a man she picked, swore in and trusted with her son's inheritance. SIX YEARS LATER HE CAME BACK AS THE MAGISTRATE, to make her do what she was refusing to do.
