Don Luis LERENA (the godfather) = probably Luis LERENA y Fernandez

Stood godfather at Rosario in 1866 but did not attend - represented by Don Claudino Campos, which is what one does from the other side of the river. THAT HE IS THE CHILD'S GRANDFATHER IS NOW DOCUMENTED, NOT INFERRED: the Montevideo marriage act of 19 December 1864 names the groom "hijo legitimo de Don Luis y de Dona Justiniana Lenguas", and Laura Adela's baptism of 1869 names "abuelos paternos Don Luis y Dona Justiniana Lenguas" - two acts, independently. What remains SECONDARY is only the equation with LUIS LERENA y FERNANDEZ (1811-1878) of the published trees, and through him the line up to Sancho. The 1866 child's fifth given name is JUSTINIANA, for that grandmother. AND HIS OWN PARENTS ARE NOW IN AN ACT: "Paternos: D. Sancho y Dona Maria Fernandez", from his son Alberto Octavio's baptism of 7 October 1850. The "y Fernandez" of the published trees is his mother's name, and it is correct. Two 1846 transcripts give the father as FRANCISCO instead; they are copies, and the 1850 original is preferred. HIS MARRIAGE ACT IS FOUND AND READ, 14 September 2026 - and it says two things nobody here knew. He married Justiniana Lenguas on 3 MARCH 1842, aged THIRTY and "natural de la Ciudad de Montevideo", so born about 1812. His parents are given as "D. SANCHO y Dona MARIA FERNANDEZ" - the third act to say Sancho, and the earliest. AND HE WAS A WIDOWER: "desposé en SEGUNDAS NUPCIAS ... viudo de Dona CAROLINA". He had a first wife who was dead by March 1842, and this archive has never looked for her or for any children of that marriage. HIS FIRST MARRIAGE IS FOUND TOO: to DONA CAROLINA OLIVA, by petition at Montevideo on 3 SEPTEMBER 1836, signed in his own hand - the only signature of this man anywhere in the archive. He asked to be excused the usual enquiry "en atencion a ser ambos nativos de esta Ciudad, y bastante conocidos". HIS BIRTH IS NOW EXACT: 9 FEBRUARY 1811, and his own baptism act is in this archive for the first time. Iglesia Matriz, Montevideo, 10 February 1811: "bautice solemnemente a LUIS ESCOLASTICO que nacio ayer, hijo legitimo de Don Sancho Llerena natural de Andalucia y de Dona Maria Fernandez natural de Asturias". Padrinos Don Luis Jose Avila y Dona Juana Josefa Guispez; officiating Presbitero Juan Loberas. This row carried c.1812 from an inference; the trees said 1811 and nothing more. It also puts his SECOND forename on record - ESCOLASTICO - which nothing here had.
