William John TAYLOR

THE TWIN OF KATHLEEN GEORGINA, proved by consecutive index pages, 489 and 490 in one quarter. A cab driver at 20 in 1891, like his father. Died 11 May 1951 at Totnes, aged 80. HE WAS NEARLY LOST TO AN INITIAL: the GRO death index carries him as 'William J' and a full-name search returned nothing. AND HIS DAY OF BIRTH IS NOT KNOWN, which this row briefly pretended otherwise. It was first entered here as 1 November 1870 - a day no source gives. The sources say 'Nov 1870' and nothing finer: the GRO index gives a quarter, the 1939 Register gives his sister's exact date and not his. THE INVENTED DAY WAS CAUGHT BY tools/consistency.py, which reported him and Kathleen as two children of one father nought months apart and said both could not be right. It was right to: the archive had manufactured a three-day gap between twins out of nothing. The precision is withdrawn rather than the twinning denied.
