A person of this surname, unplaced

Juan ZORRILLA DE SAN MARTIN (witness, 1909)

A WITNESS AT EMMA LERENA REGULES'S WEDDING, 9 August 1909: 'Fueron testigos, Don JUAN ZORRILLA DE SAN MARTIN, de CINCUENTA Y TRES ANOS de edad, de estado VIUDO, de profesion ABOGADO, de nacionalidad oriental, domiciliado en la calle RINCON' - and he signs the act. THAT IS THE NATIONAL POET OF URUGUAY, author of Tabare, born 1855, which is exactly fifty-three in August 1909, a widower and a lawyer. THE IDENTIFICATION IS FROM AGE, PROFESSION, CITY AND A RARE COMPOUND NAME, NOT FROM A DOCUMENT THAT SAYS SO. AND IT IS RECORDED THE WAY THIS ARCHIVE RECORDS ITS OTHER FAMOUS NAMES - WITH NO INFERENCE DRAWN. A president stood godfather to a Lerena child in this register and a bishop dispensed a Lerena's banns; this is the third, and all it shows is that Arturo Lerena the abogado moved among Montevideo lawyers.
