A person of this surname, unplaced

Dr Ambrosio LERENA (witness, 1880)

A SECOND DOCTOR LERENA, AND HE IS NEW TO THIS ARCHIVE. Witness at the marriage of Dr Arturo Lerena and Emma Regules, Catedral de Montevideo, 23 June 1880: 'fueron testigos el DOCTOR DON AMBROSIO LERENA'. AMBROSIO IS AMBROSIA TRAIBEL'S NAME IN THE MASCULINE, and a man of that name standing witness for a son of Ambrosia Traibel is most simply read as another of her sons - a brother of the groom. NOT PROVED: the act gives him no parents and no age, and this archive does not turn a naming habit into a parent. TWO DOCTORS IN ONE GENERATION OF THIS FAMILY is worth recording on its own: the Lerena Traibel of Montevideo were a professional household by 1880, two generations after Sancho. AND 'DOCTOR' DOES NOT MEAN A PHYSICIAN HERE. Arturo's own daughter's act of 1909 gives Arturo as ABOGADO, so the Doctor on the 1880 act is the style of a lawyer. NOTHING ON THE 1880 ACT SAYS WHICH PROFESSION AMBROSIO FOLLOWED, and this row no longer implies one.
