Juan Manuel LERENA Gazo (b. 1876, m. Simona Pereira 1929)

A SON OF ISAAC LERENA AND ADELAIDA GAZO, A POLICE EMPLOYEE AT SALTO, MARRIED IN EXTREMIS ON 18 FEBRUARY 1929, FOUND 29 October 2026. Civil marriage act no. 5 of Salto (Segunda Seccion), 18 February 1929, at seven in the evening before Rodolfo E. Vidal, read at the plate: 'don Juan Manuel Lerena, de nacionalidad oriental, nacido el dia ocho de Marzo de mil ochocientos setenta y seis en la Ciudad de Trinidad, de profesion empleado policial, domiciliado en calle Colon s/n, hijo de Pedro Isaac Lerena ... y de Adelaida Gazo', and 'dona Simona Pereira, ... nacida ... ochocientos ochenta y tres en esta Ciudad, de profesion labores, hija de Fructuoso Pereira ... fallecido en Montevideo y de Maria Almeida ... fallecida en esta Ciudad'; 'los cuales me declaran haber contraido matrimonio civil in extremis el dia diez y ocho de Febrero ... segun consta del expediente No. 5', witnesses Rudecindo Mesquita, fifty-nine, and Eloy Urchorquia, thirty-eight. A marginal note of 11 April 1929 records that by sentence of 16 March the judge declared the marriage proved - so one of the pair was dying, and the register does not say which, nor whether he lived. HE IS PROBABLY THE 'JOSE MANUEL' OF ADELAIDA GAZO'S SIX CHILDREN OF 1900 AND THE MANUEL LERENA, TYPOGRAPHER, WHO DECLARES DEATHS AT TRINIDAD FROM 1899 TO 1903 (ages 21 to 24, a birth about 1878-79, three years later than 1876) - NOT MERGED, since the names and ages differ. A CONFLICT THIS ROW KEEPS, 29 October 2026: the groom states his own birth as 8 March 1876 at Trinidad, which is five and a half months after the baptism-born 23 September 1875 of his sister Maria Luisa Lina by the same parents - both cannot be true; the date he gave in 1929, at fifty-three and in extremis, is the likelier error (the typographer 'Manuel Lerena' of the Trinidad acts is twenty-one in 1899 and twenty-four in 1903, a birth about 1878-79), so the year is carried here as 'about 1876' and the day is not relied on.
